Organization History
In 2007 HuHul-Kin – Rays of the Sun began as a program of Maria’s Children International, a Minnesota based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In July 2011 Maria’s Children International changed its name to HuHul-Kin – Rays of the Sun. The name Maria’s Children now belongs to Maria Yeliseyeva, a Moscow artist, for whom the organization was named. This change occured because Maria asked to have her internet domain name only in Russia. She can now support the programs through donations and grants from Russia and other European countries. The one Moscow program has expanded to three programs – one in Moscow, one in St. Petersburg, and one in Dimitrov. The Russian programs are all stable and self -sustaining. Since Maria’s Children International was always meant to be a startup organization we changed the name to HuHul-Kin – Rays of the Sun in order to continue seeding the program in Mexico which is still struggling to emerge and needs continued startup support.
